  • Blacks Vets

    The Challenge

Blacks Vets is a group of 5 veterinary practices based in the Black Country in the Midlands. Established in the 1950’s the practice had built up a good reputation with customers, employees and in the community and had enjoyed steady growth allowing it to continually invest in new sites and new equipment. Faced with ever increasing competition from large corporate veterinary groups cutting margins and using aggressive marketing tactics to win new customers, as well as transitioning from one generation of partners to the next, the Blacks partners recognised that they needed some external support to enable them to enjoy continued growth and success.

    The solution

Innergy were invited in to support the Partner team on its journey in a business coaching and non-executive Director capacity. After reviewing the business, including gaining employee and management input into shareholder aspirations, working practices and employee engagement, Innergy developed a business coaching framework which was delivered over 2 years which included:

    • Developing a clear strategy to enable the business to focus on the key result areas
    • Developing the partner team as an effective leadership team, collectively and individually
    • Implementing best practice decision making
    • Supporting the business in identifying and recruiting top talent

    The outcome:

Blacks Vets enjoyed the most successful 2 years in their history from a commercial perspective, outperforming the market, enabling them to invest in new equipment, systems, develop their premises and in the teams.

Blacks Vets was also voted UK Practice of the Year, and every one of the 5 branches was in the top 10 of the best UK Vet Practices as voted by UK vet owners, holding the 1st, 2nd, 3rd 5th and 7th rankings. Extraordinary recognition for a very special business.

    What they said:

"Innergy enabled us to develop as a business, guiding us through a period of transition and building on our successful past history. We felt Innergy got to know our business well, it’s strengths and weaknesses and provided sound advice from a position of knowledge. In addition having an external adviser made it easier to handle some of the interpersonal issues that are often best dealt with using a fresh pair of eyes. We are stronger as a business and as a leadership team and ready for the challenges of the future. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending Innergy”
