    Employee Engagement for Organisation Success

When we go into businesses and ask employees what defines success for the organisation we get varying answers with the majority not really knowing. How should we then expect employees to be truly engaged with the company if they don’t know how their cog fits into the wheel?

As a business there may be very clear job descriptions in place however there needs to be an understanding by employees outside their role and how the effort they put in on a daily basis brings value to the business by achieving goals.

Here are a few ideas on how to maximise engagement across employees:

    • Have job descriptions for everyone from the MD down and publish a summary to everyone so there is not doubt how success in anyone else’s job is defined
    • Have a vision that people can relate to (challenging, inspirational, relevant, understandable) for the team and the business
    • All employees should know three things that define success in their job on a day to day basis. They need to be a part of crating these KPIs with their line manager and understand how they contribute to the overall strategic goals of the business.
    • Communicate the vision to employees in small groups directly from the MD / Chief Executive and translate how their success will deliver success for the organisation as a whole. This communication needs to be face to face it will not work via email as they won’t get the passion or feel it is that important
    • Create opportunities for employee involvement in business improvement, getting the input from those who perform the day to day tasks can generate the best ideas
    • Recognise success on an individual and team level (it doesn’t need to cost)

Communicating what success for the organisation looks like and how employees play a part in that will drive up employee engagement and in turn increase the organisations success.
